Courage Nights: Breast Cancer Awareness

Starting in 2004, Dara was part of a conversation about young women with breast cancer. That transitioned from donating a Record Pop Top for an art auction into an event planning dream come true!

Dara planned, executed and succeeded in envisioning Geralyn Lucas' event "Courage Night" by creating a party for Geralyn and Dara's idol for 20 + years, Fashion Designer and Breast Cancer Survivor, Betsey Johnson. Over 200 people attended Courage Night, which was held at Betsey's SOHO-NYC flagship store. Based on the success of that first party, Dara was specially selected by Geralyn to continue her volunteer work on a much larger scale as the Co-Chair of the National Courage Night Committee in 2005.

In addition to her own event at Borders Bookstore in NYC, Dara assisted other breast cancer survivors, public relations employees and volunteers in twenty cities to plan successful Courage Nights. Both years, New York City after-parties were held at Lotus NY Nightclub in the trendy meatpacking district. In 2006, the World Premiere of "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy" a Lifetime Original Movie, starring NBC Scrubs star, Sarah Chalke, was held at the Hearst Building, NYC, with another smaller event at Henri Bendel and Sony Studios, NYC. Dara created a special Record Pop Top called "Lipstick Kisses" to be auctioned off at a Boston event with Geralyn as guest speaker in April 2007.
